Polling in the 11 Assembly constituencies in Kancheepuram district was peaceful.
According to official sources, some EVM machines, which reported errors at the commencement of the polling, were immediately replaced. Issues regarding the appointment of certain booth agents were also resolved quickly, officials said.
Almost all the polling stations in the 11 constituencies witnessed brisk polling with around 12 percent of polling at 9 a.m. and the same trend continued with the total percentage of polling touching 69 per cent around 4-30 p.m.
Senior district officials involved in the election process monitored the polling through web streaming at the Collectorate.
At some places, such as Paiyanur in Tiruporur constituency, poll graffiti, which had been banned by the EC, was found by roads near polling booths.
Many commuters suffered as buses were heavily crowded.
Some of the passengers were seen sitting on top of a State Transport Corporation bus proceeding towards Tindivanam from Chennai at Paranur toll plaza near Chengalpattu.
Many passengers also had to wait for a considerable amount of time at Chengalpattu bus depot for their buses to leave.
Officials said this year, the management had granted permission to the crew to take a “few hours off from duty” during the day to cast their vote to comply with the Election Commission’s direction to achieve 100 per cent voting.
