Telangana to have new Protection cell to check piracy of films

Hyderabad, May 16 (UNI) The Telangana government will soon create an Intellectual Property Protection Cell to be known as Telangana Intellectual Property Crime Unit (TIPCU) and will be made as part of the Cyber Crime Cell, Information Technology Electronics and Communication (ITE&C) Principal Secretary Jayesh Ranjan said.
Talking to newspersons here today on the sidelines of the Campus Party launch programme, Mr Ranjan said the TIPCU will give exclusive attention to pirated sites, those who upload pirated films and how to catch those involved in it.
Quoting that due to the piracy of the film Baahubali, about Rs 380 crore loss was suffered by the film industry. “It not only affects the film industry but also the government by way of entertainment tax,” he said and added that the GO will be issued soon in this regard once the approval was taken from Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and IT Minister K T Rama Rao.
