Abductors murdered Kartik first and later called his parents for ransom
Indore: Ashok Mishra, father of 13-year-old Kartik, who was abducted and killed by goons hired by his rival Santosh Patidar, had been planning to avenge his son's death from the time his body was found on Dec 3, 2015.
During the course of investigation, Patidar's relatives Kailash Kothari and his son Pankaj, who ran a clinic next to Patidar's medical shop, were also interrogated by the police but, given a clean chit later.
Apparently, Ashok didn't seem to agree with the line of investigation and had made up his mind to extract revenge . Kartik was abducted when he was returning from Indore after attending a three-hour coaching class at Satya Sai square on Dec 2, 2015. Ashok, owner of a medical store in Dakachya, had received a ransom call late in the evening same day in which the accused demanded a sum of Rs 5 lakh from him.
Local police officials told TOI that while Kartik was on his way back to Dewas, he was approached by two men Kanhaiyalal Jat, 22 and Nanuram Choudhary, 25, both residents of Dakachya village, who offered to drop him back home.
Since Kartik knew them, he agreed to go along with them. The accused asked him to inform his parents that he had left his class and was returning home but convinced him not to mention that he was being accompanied by them.
After Kartik spoke to his parents, the accused took away his mobile phone. As they reached Dhamnod, Kartik started questioning them as to where they were headed to. On this, the accused took him to a field and strangulated him. They later dumped his body in the Narmada river some 30km away from the crime spot.
"The accused then made ransom calls at around 9:30 pm to project it as a case of abduction. Kartik was already dead by then," Vinay Paul, ASP Crime told TOI.
The body of the minor was recovered more than 24 hour later from a ghat in Maheshwar.
A day after the body was recovered, Indore crime branch arrested Santosh Patidar, Kanhaiyalal Jat and Nanuram Choudhary. Patidar, who also own a medical store in Dakachya, had hired two persons for Rs 2 lakh to kill the boy. He had told them that they could get more money by seeking ransom from Kartik's father, Ashok, after carrying out the crime.
