Jaipur: The forest department in Rajsamand has registered an FIR against unidentified villagers of Kachhabali a day after they strangulated a leopard to death. Apart from booking the villagers under the Wildlife Protection Act, the authorities have added charges of cruelty to animal as people tortured the panther and made videos of the incident using their cellphones.

Not only that, they also clicked selfies and put them on the social media. "We are trying to identify the villagers on the basis of video footages of the incident, which have gone viral on social media. Many people are seen tying up leopard's legs and neck with a rope and sitting around the scared animal. It was quite cruel on part of the villagers," said a senior forest department officer.
He added that some of the villagers have been identified on the basis of these footages and their names will be included in the FIR. "Some villagers were seen forcing stones into the animal's mouth. The rope tied up around his neck resulted in his death. We have conducted a post-mortem examination and are awaiting a report," said the officer.
