Shah Rukh Khan had already had a release this year with Fan. Salman Khan is going to keep his Eid promise with Sultan. Aamir is arriving with Dangal. Khiladi Akshay Kumar will have multiple releases again this year. Ajay Devgn is preparing his Shivaay for a Diwali release. Hrithik Roshan has period drama Mohenjo Daro. But what’s next? There’s talk of multiple films with these stars. We give you a lowdown on what is in store for your fav star in the next two years.

Shah Rukh Khan

King Khan has vowed to do three films a year from now on. Fan and Raees were slated for release this year, but the latter has been shifted to January 2017 to avert a clash with Salman Khan’s Sultan. Consequently, this year the superstar had only one release.

What’s next

Gauri Shinde’s next: Shah Rukh has already started shooting for Gauri’s second directorial, that has him paired opposite Alia Bhatt, who is half his age. A complex love story, it’s about a spunky, spirited 22-year-old student whose life changes when this older man, a counsellor, comes into her life.

Imtiaz Ali’s next: SRK has given his nod to Imtiaz’s next in which he will be paired opposite Anushka Sharma for the third time after Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Jab Tak Hai Jaan. Buzz is SRK will be playing a Sikh tourist in Europe. Imtiaz has already started prepping for the film and will be going to Budapest — where the film will be shot — for a recce. Shooting begins in July this year.

What follows

Untitled film by Aanand L Rai: This will be the Tanu Weds Manu director’s most ambitious film. Not only has he managed to rope in SRK in the film, he has got him to play a midget. Pitched as an interesting love story, the director has said in an interview that the story is much more than SRK playing a dwarf. “It is a very entertaining love story. I will be a fool if I have Shah Rukh Khan in my film and have no romance and songs,” he said. However, he is still working on his script, so SRK will start shooting for it after Imtiaz’s film. The lead actress is yet to be finalised.

Don 3: There has been a lot of speculation about the third film in the hit franchise. A couple of months ago, producer Ritesh Sidhwani let out that they have zeroed in on the concept and are going to start scripting it. SRK might start shooting for the film after he completes Imtiaz’s and Aanand’s films.
Shah Rukh and Sanjay Leela Bhansali are also in talks for a film — it could be for Padmavati or a different film altogether.

Aamir Khan

The actor who does only one film at a time is currently shooting for Dangal based on the life of wrestling coach Mahavir Phogat. The film releases this December.

What’s next

Advait Chandan’s debut directorial: He was Aamir Khan’s manager for five years before he became an assistant director. Now, Advait is all set to make his directorial debut with Secret Superstar, a musical which Aamir is producing. It’s the story of an adolescent girl who aspires to be a singer. Aamir will play the role of a music composer. The film is expected to go on floors by June this year.

What follows

Sarfarosh 2: John Matthew Mathan who directed the superhit Sarfarosh recently revealed that Aamir felt a sequel to his hit 1999 thriller should be made. The director is currently scripting it and will approach Khan once he is ready.

3 Idiots sequel: Aamir and director Rajkumar Hirani revealed that they have come up with an idea that would be great for the sequel of the blockbuster. “It’s a long way. But this is one film that I really want to do,” Hirani said.

Hrithik Roshan

Like Aamir, Hrithik too usually has one release a year — sometimes not even that — his last was Bang Bang in 2014. The actor has wrapped up the period drama Mohenjo-Daro, which will release this August and is currently shooting for Kaabil.

What’s next

Kaabil: A few months after Mohenjo-Daro, Hrithik will be back on the screen with Kaabil that is scheduled for January 26, 2017 release. Produced by his father Rakesh Roshan and directed by Sanjay Gupta, Kaabil is a thriller and has Hrithik playing a blind man. He has started meeting visually impaired people to prep for the role. Speculation is rife that it is based on the South Korean thriller Broken where the hero, a widower, takes care of his 15-year old daughter. When the girl is found raped and murdered, the protagonist becomes a killer on the run to take revenge on two of her assailants. In the film, where Yami Gautam is paired opposite him in this film and the plot has changed from daughter to wife.

What follows

Vijay Krishna Acharya’s next: Hrithik was to do the Dhoom 3 director’s next film Thug, that has him playing a pirate on the line of Pirates Of The Caribbean’s Jack Sparrow, but it is on hold as of now. Vijay Krishna will be helming the fourth installment of the Dhoom series first.

Akshay Kumar

He is one actor who does not depend on a festival or holiday weekend for a release. The actor who has over three releases every year is currently shooting for Rustom which is to release this August. Based on the infamous Nanavati murder case, the film has him playing a naval officer. Coming up is the multi-starrer Housefull 3 which sees Akshay going back to doing comedy after the realistic Airlift.

What’ next

Namaste England: Akshay teams up with producer Vipul Shah for the sequel of Namastey London, though this film has nothing to do with the original. While the former starred Katrina Kaif, this one has him pairing up with Sonakshi Sinha for the fifth time!

Robot 2: Akshay will be playing the villain in this Rajinikant starrer that will mark his debut in Tamil films. He plays a mad scientist inspired by a crow. Even his look is inspired by the bird! The film hits the theatres next year.

What follows

Ikka: Akshay will reprise South star Vijay’s role in this Hindi remake of Tamil blockbuster Kaththi. The khiladi will play a double role in the film to be directed by debutant Jagan.

Theri remake: The actor who specialises in South remakes is looking at buying the rights of Tamil film Theri, which has become a huge hit. Starring Vijay, it’s about an honest cop who turns into three different people to save his daughter when his wife is killed.

Salman Khan

Even as he is gearing up for his Eid release Sultan that has him playing a wrestler, Salman has several filmmakers waiting to sign him up. With the superstar turning a new leaf and finishing the shoot of his films in three-four months, his fans can expect to see more of him on screen.

What’s next

Kabir Khan’s next: Kabir and Salman have become an unbeatable combo after Ek Tha Tiger and Bajrangi Bhaijaan. They are teaming up for the third time and have already booked next year’s Eid for its release. The film which will have a larger-than-life political backdrop to it will go on the floors this July.

What follows

Rajkumar Santoshi’s next: Twenty two years after Andaz Apna Apna, Salman teams up with the director for a film to be produced by Atul Agnihotri. There are two scripts Salman is said to be mulling over: one is written by Santoshi and another one is a Korean film Ode To My Father, for which Atul has bought the rights. Salman will take a call soon and the film is slated for a Diwali 2017 release.

Dabangg 3: The third film in the super hit franchise, this Arbaaz Khan directorial will have to wait till Salman finishes his other films. This one will be a prequel to Dabangg where it will be show how the actor becomes Chulbul Pandey.

Kshanam remake: Sajid Nadiadwala has bought the rights for the blockbuster Telugu film about a man who helps his ex girlfriend find her daughter who has been kidnapped. Salman will be playing the lead and Nawazuddin Siddiqui is likely to play the antagonist.

Kick 2: After Kick, which was a big hit, director Sajid Nadiadwala is gearing up for its sequel, but it is in the scripting stage and will take time to start rolling.

Ajay Devgn

Seven years after his directorial debut with U Me Aur Hum, Ajay has taken up the reins once again for Shivaay, which he is currently shooting for. Slated for a Diwali release this year, the film shot in Mussourie and Bulgaria will see the actor directing and acting in the action film. Sayesha Saigal makes her debut opposite the star.

What’s next

Remo D’Souza’s next: Ajay will be producing and starring in an action-dance film directed by Remo. A two-hero film, it will have Sooraj Pancholi alongside Ajay and they will be playing brothers. It will revolve around their relationship. The film will go on the floors this August.

What follows

Baadshaho: The film sees him teaming up with his Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai director Milan Luthria. Like their earlier outing, this one too is based in 1970s and revolves around a treasure hunt during the period of emergency. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is in talks with the makers for a role loosely based on Gayatri Devi.

Sons of Sardaar 2: Unlike the original film Son Of Sardaar that was a comedy, this one will be based on a real-life story. It is inspired from the historic Battle of Saragarhi which was fought before the Tirah Campaign on September 12, 1897 between 21 Sikhs of the 36th Sikh Regiment of British India. Ajay has already announced Diwali 2017 as its release date.
