: The BJP, which has been in power in the municipal corporations for three terms, said the results of the by-polls on Sunday would be in its favour, dismissing concerns of an anti-incumbency factor.
The president of the Delhi unit of the BJP, Satish Upadhyay, said that the party would win comfortably.
“As per the grass-roots feedback we have got, the results on Tuesday will be in our favour. Anti-incumbency won’t play a role for us, though Delhiites are tired of the Aam Aadmi Party government,” said Mr. Upadhyay.
Biased poll panel
Meanwhile, Mr. Upadhyay alleged that officials of the Delhi State Election Commission had favoured the Delhi government’s Ministers and MLAs, as well as AAP leaders.
“Delhi has never seen the State Election Commission officials shamelessly obliging the Delhi government Ministers, MLAs and leaders as we saw today. They allowed the AAP leaders to move freely in and around polling stations,” said Mr. Upadhyay, who is himself a councillor in the South Delhi Municipal Corporation.
However, he added that the so-called advantage would not change the result, and that the BJP would come out on top.
The ruling-party enjoys a comfortable margin in the three corporations, and the result of these by-polls won’t have any real ramifications on functioning of the civic bodies. But, with general elections to the corporations due next year, these by-polls have been seen as a test.
