Haq announces 2 stadiums, Rs 90 lakh under MGNREGA

KULGAM, May 15: On the persistent demand of the local youth, Minister for Rural Development and Law & Justice, Abdul Haq Khan today announced two stadiums in Khudwani and Qoimoh villages of Kulgam district and issued instructions to the concerned officers to start the work in shortest possible time after completing the necessary formalities.
While addressing largely attended public meetings at villages Qoimoh and Khudwani in Kulgam, the Minister also announced an additional grant of Rs 90 lakh for 6 Panchayats under MGNREGA to execute various developmental works.
He also directed for undertaking construction work of protection bunds along flood prone stream of the village on priority basis to avoid future flood threat in the area. He further directed the concerned to take   immediate measures for the restoration of all the springs of the village which were blocked/affected due to 2014 floods.
While acknowledging the hardships of the people on ground, the Minister said that the present PDP-BJP Government led by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti was fully committed to the welfare of the people of the State, especially those living in the rural and far-flung areas. He said Government has formulated a comprehensive programme for the all round development of the State and ensure active participation of the people in decision making in the development process.
He said people’s involvement in the development initiatives is must as the locals are the actual beneficiaries of the development and they must come forward and assist the administration in preparation of plans and fixing priorities so that the benefits of various programmes percolate down to the needy in the society, he asserted.
Maintaining that MGNREGA is a an important flagship programme of Central Government aimed at to ensure development of the rural areas with creating employment opportunities for the locals, the Minister urged the people to take full advantage of this programme and undertake development of their areas. He said this programme has no dearth of funds and it is upto the locals how much work they can execute on creating the valuable public assets.
