Cultural show ‘Fusion’ draws tourists to McLeodganj

The district administration organised a cultural show, Fusion, at McLeodganj last evening. The show, the effort of Deputy Commissioner, Kangra, Ritesh Chauhan, was the first of its kind at McLeodganj.

Fusion was marked by enthralling performance from the local and Tibetan artistes. While the locals, many of them from the Public Relations Department, performed Kangra and Gaddi dances, the Tibetan artistes displayed the famous lion dance with mascots.

The cultural fest attracted tourists who are thronging McLeodganj these days. Ashutosh, a tourist from Delhi, said such cultural fests that display local art and culture could add to more value to it as a tourist destination.

Vikram a local, said the state government used to organise a summer festival at Dharamsala in which artistes from the state and outside were invited. However, the summer festival was organised in lower Dharamsala and a few tourists attend it. However, if such small cultural fests were organised at McLeodganj that is main tourist hub of the area, it can add another dimension to tourism in the area.

The Deputy Commissioner said more such small cultural fests could be organised at McLeodganj and other tourist places in the district as they could provide employment to local artistes and increase business for the tourism industry in the area.
