The Sangwan Khap-40 today honoured 21 families of those killed during the Jat agitation for reservation with Rs5 lakh in cash and ‘Jat Ratan’ during a mahapanchayat at Kheri Bura village in the district.
The mahapanchayat headed by Sangwan khap chief Colonel Rishal Singh (retd) called the deceased as heroes of the community due to whom the Jat reservation demand could be materialised. Criticising the state government, he said that had the government accepted their demand earlier, precious lives of youths could have been saved.
“Despite assurance, we do not have faith in the government till its benefits start reaching us,” he said.
Hawa Singh Sangwan, chief of the All-India Jat Aarakshan Sangrash Samiti, demanded that the government should construct memorial in the memory of those who laid down their lives during the agitation.
The panchayat members announced to meet again on May 29 at Nandal Bhawan in Rohtak to chalk out strategies for release of the youths arrested for violence during the Jat agitation.
