Constable booked for abusing, beating up colleagues
Pune: A constable posted at the Koregaon Park police station was booked for allegedly abusing and beating up two of his colleagues on Sunday.
Vasant Waghmare, the accused, was found creating a ruckus in front of a restaurant and bar located on Lane number 7 of Koregaon Park when the two constables had gone there around 1230am. Though they brought Waghmare back to the police station, he managed to flee under the cover of darkness.
Police said beat marshals Sunil Waghmode and Anil Mande of Koregaon Park were on duty and in uniform.
On finding that the restaurant was functioning after the deadline, they asked the hotelier to down the shutter for the day.
Waghmare, who was in a car in plain clothes, called up the two constables and told them not to trouble the hotelier, as he was at the spot to look after the business with the hotels. He also allegedly abused and manhandled the two colleagues.
The beat marshals overpowered Waghmare and took him to the police station. Around 5.30am, he told other policemen that he was going to a toilet behind the police station. He, however, fled in the dark, police said.
Later during the day, police filed an offence against Waghmare under sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of duty) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. The FIR stated that he was drunk at the time he abused and beat up the two beat marshals.
Assistant commissioner of police (Cantonment division) Vasant Tambe said a manhunt has been launched to trace Waghmare.
