Suicide Squad: What Makes Harley Quinn So Great To Watch, According To Margot Robbie

This summer is going to be jam packed of superhero team-up movies. Captain America: Civil War is currently raking in crazy amounts of money, and we still have X-Men: Apocalypse and Suicide Squad to look forward to before the summer has passed. And with Apocalypse garnering mixed reviews, the next big hit may be DC’s Suicide Squad in August. One of the most exciting aspects of that villain romp is Harley Quinn’s live-action adaptation by Australian actress Margot Robbie

Margot Robbie recently sat down with Vogue, where she put in words just what makes Harley such a force in Suicide Squad:

She doesn’t even have superpowers. She’s just a psychopath who runs around gleefully killing people—she finds joy in causing mayhem, which makes her weirdly endearing and fun to watch.

Who would have thought that murder could be so endearing? I guess Dexter Morgan would agree.

Margot Robbie’s statement seems hopeful for Suicide Squad’s overall quality. In fact, the follies of Batman v Superman and Man of Steel might actually prove as one of Suicide Squad’s strongest suits. Namely, the penchant that Batman and Superman have for murder will surely allow the villains of Suicide Squad to have fun killing anyone they want. And this time it will be more appropriate.

Suicide Squad is looking to essentially be the saving grace of the DC Extended Universe. Both of the previous films were met with mixed to negative critical response. Fans have spoken out regarding the darker nature of the DCEU, and how Zack Snyder let both films stay one note tonally.

Suicide Squad, conversely, seems to be full of humor and laughs for the audience, in addition to the darkness that a team of villains obviously comes with. Jared Leto is sure to be bone chilling, but the trailers that we’ve seen have all been extremely fun, the movie not taking itself too seriously. Additionally, a ton of reshoots were made recently, presumably to continue bringing the humor to the forefront. And to add more Batfleck.

Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn appears to be the true scene stealer of Suicide Squad. She’s been given the best lines in each of the trailers, in addition to being probably the most popular character of the cast (besides Joker, obviously). Batman fans have been patiently waiting to see Harley make it onto the big screen, so the villainess’ debut has been more than 20 years in the making. Seeing her “gleefully” kill people is going to satisfying, regardless of what else happens in the film.

What do you think of Margot Robbie’s statement? Are you excited to see Harley in live-action? Sound off in the comments below.

Suicide Squad will be released in theaters August 5th, 2016.
