Pak National Tahira Zahoor gets Indian citizenship after 13 long years

Gurdaspur, May 15 (UNI) The agonising wait is over for Pakistani national Tahira Hazoor , who formally got the Indian citizenship today when she was handed over the concerned certificates by district Deputy Commissioner Pardeep Sabharwal here.
Ms Hazoor was the first Pakistani girl to be married to an Indian citizen Maqbool Ahmad, a resident of Qadian town in the district in 2003, when a road border with Pakistan was re-opened between the two nations, which was closed following militant attacks on the Parliament in 2001.
She hailed from Faisalabad in Pakistan and had applied for Indian citizenship in the office of district Deputy Commissioner on March 9, 2011. The state government had also recommended her citizenship case to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, but the matter took a back seat.
