Holidaying abroad? Here's destination nail art to soak in the spirit?
When in Rome, do as the Romans do may be a popular idiom, but Bengalureans are taking it literally.
Fashionistas in the city are opting for destination nail art, keeping in sync with their vacation destinations. “I've been getting many requests for destination-themed nail art since April, the start of summer vacations. So we have done London-, Maldivesand Paris-themed art. This trend is good for t people who are bold and love to experiment.
They t like it because it takes their i fashion statement to the i next level and shows off their love for travel,“ says nail art expert Shikha Sridhar. Makeup artist Manjusha Bajaj thought it would be i cool to sport nail art that l matched her travel plans to the UK. “I was going to London for a makeup course, and got London icons i done on my nails. It was quirky and fun, and got a lot of attention there. This particular form of nail art has a novelty factor, because it is not something you can do regularly ,“ she says.
While many opt for flags and monuments of the countries they are visiting, others settle for generic landscapes like a tropical sunrise, palm trees, oceans and starfish nail art, among others.
“Nails should signify personal style and life events. These days, folks going on summer vacations are getting colours and nail art to depict their travel destination and complete their holiday look. Holiday nail art is best achieved with gel polish, as the colour and designs remain through the holiday period and long after, giving your hands a dressed-up look, and making holiday memories last longer. Girls who are unable to travel this summer are also getting landscape nail art done to join in on the fun,“ says nail expert Neela Bopaiah.
GET YOUR OWN DESTINATION NAIL ART
As this kind of art is complicated, you may want to visit a nail studio. But if you are a staunch believer in DIY, Neela shares a simple technique to get a palm tree on your nails.
Give your hands and nails a basic scrub File your nails Apply two coats of your favourite nail colour on all fingers and a contrasting colour on the ring finger.
Once the polish is dry, create curved lines for the trunk of the palm tree using a nail art brush and a dark polish.
Broaden the bottom of the trunk. Once done, draw a few curved lines on the top part of the trunk for the branches and leaves.
Define the leaves.
After the art is completely dry, apply a top coat to seal the design.
