The Dialysis Club was inaugurated by film producer Allu Arvind in the presence of Star Hospital Managing Director Dr Gopichand, Dr Rajashaker Chakravarthi, Head of Nephorology, Dr Jyothsna Guttikonda , Consultant Nephrologist and several dialysis patients. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rajashaker Chakravarthi, Head of Nephorology said the prevalence of kidney diseases has increased alarmingly in the recent past with over 10 lakh patients suffering from end stage kidney disease requiring dialysis and two lakh patients added every year to require regular dialysis. Of the 10 lakh dialysis patients, only 20 per cent (1.5 lakh) of the people were under going dialysis, due to financial constraints, he said. He said many patients were undergoing dialysis with available facilities across the country and leading near normal lives.
