Police have arrested four persons including a Junior Engineer of Tangedco and an Office Assistant working in the Secretariat as they were found in possession of 10 postal votes. Police said a flying squad led by Natarajan were conducting vehicle check at Puthukkudi intersection near Ambasamudram on Friday night. When they intercepted a sports utility vehicle and frisked the occupants, the flying squad members recovered 10 postal ballots from them and they were arrested immediately, as ordered by Sub-Collector, Cheranmahadevi V. Vishnu. They were identified as E. Arunan (40), Junior Engineer, Tangedco’s Moolaikkaraipatti sub-station near here, T. Aravind (32) of Velacherry in Chennai, who is working as an Office Assistant in a government department in Secretariat, Chennai, S. Selva Soodaamani (45) of Thiyagaraja Nagar here and M. Marimuthu (32) of Subramaniapuram in Ambasamudram.
Sources in the police said the foursome was actively canvassing votes for the candidate of one of the two major political parties in fray in Ambasamudram segment. They had collected the postal votes from government employees and teachers selected for poll-duty.
