Criticism of SC verdict on NEET untenable, ill-motivated: Chib

JAMMU, May 14: Expressing deep anguish over the criticism in Kashmir of the Supreme Court verdict on National Eligibility Entrance Test NEET, senior Congress leader and former Minister, RS Chib today said that the criticism of the verdict is untenable and ill-motivated.
He said the demand of some political parties seeking a legislation against the NEET and a regime that would exclude the solitary State of J&K from the ambit of the NEET is unjustifiable and against the interests of the State and its student community.
J&K is an integral part of India and it will be only in the fitness of things if the State is brought under the ambit of the NEET, he further said, adding that it will go a long way in harmonizing inter-regional relations.
“The NEET will provide fair and equal opportunities to the youth of J&K to prove their worth and academic excellence. The bringing of J&K under the jurisdiction of the NEET will end inter-regional bitterness as no one then will be able to blame that he or she was not given a fair opportunity to prove his/her worth as had been the case thus far,” said Chib in a written statement, adding that the Supreme Court verdict is highly rational that needed to be supported by one and all.
He added that to oppose the apex court decision would be only to subvert and negate the cardinal principle of fair play and justice and promote mediocrity.
He expressed the hope that the political parties, will desist from moving a bill against the Supreme Court verdict, saying this extreme step, if taken, will trigger protests in some parts of the State, which will not be in the larger interest of the State already gripped by tensions and violence.
