Edinburgh City win promotion to Scottish League Two

Edinburgh City sealed their place in Scottish League Two next season after a 1-0 victory over 10-man East Stirlingshire in their play-off final second leg at Ochilview Park.

Drawing 1-1 from the first tie, Dougie Gair scored the decisive goal from the penalty spot with three minutes remaining for the Lowland League champions.

Reece Donaldson, along with Edinburgh's Joe Mbu, cleared to play after having their red cards last week overturned, was dismissed again after bringing down Ross Allum.

Gair, who also converted from the spot in the first leg, kept his cool once more to help Edinburgh seal a place in the Scottish Football League for the first time since adopting the name in 1986.

Perennial strugglers Shire, meanwhile, bow out of the SFL after a 61-year stay.

Both teams had earlier had chances to open the scoring with Edinburgh goalkeeper Gregor Amos denying Thomas Orr and David McKenna and Darren Dolan keeping out strikes from Aaron Dunsmore and Mark McConnell at the other end.
