TRICHY: DMK women's wing secretary and Rajya Sabha member Kanimozhi on Saturday attacked AIADMK’s poll promise of providing free electricity to 78 lakh households in Tamil Nadu and asked why the state government had increased electricity charges twice in the past five years if it could give power free of cost.
Speaking to reporters in Trichy on the last day of campaigning for the May 16 assembly election, she said, “The AIADMK government put extra burden on people in terms of electricity bills by increasing the cost.
Now, if they say they would give power free of cost, people won’t believe it.”
Similarly, AIADMK’s promise of achieving total prohibition in a phased manner was a myth, she said. “The DMK will bring total prohibition in the state at one go and, after that, focus on rehabilitation of alcoholics,” she said.
Kanimozhi said AIADMK would not come back to power despite bribing voters with money as people “want to get rid of the incumbent government.”
