Thiruvananthapuram: The visit by actor Mohanlal and director Priyadarshan seeking votes for LDF candidate K B Ganesh Kumar in Pathanapuram has kicked up a row in the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). On Thursday, Mohanlal had campaigned for Ganesh, following which actor Salim Kumar, who had been campaigning for UDF, decided to quit AMMA.
According to Salim Kumar, the understanding was that wherever AMMA members contested against each other, a third member would not campaign for either, unless they had an open political leaning.
This was breached by Mohanlal, Salim Kumar said. UDF candidate Jagadeesh said he was saddened by Mohanlal’s action.
“I do not wish to comment on the issue. The answer will be given by the people in the election,” Ganesh said.
Accepting Salim Kumar's resignation, AMMA president Innocent said it was the personal choice of members to decide whom to support.
