Kolkata / Barasat / Potashpur: On the day Calcutta high court hauled up the police for their failure to curb post-poll violence, more such incidents were reported from the city and districts.
In Beliaghata, Sushanta De alleged that a group of four-five Trinamool workers attacked him at his house on Thursday evening. On Friday, however, he was in for a rude shock.
When the CPM polling agent from the Rashmoni Bazaar area went to Beliaghata police station to collect a copy of the FIR he had lodged, De himself was arrested.
According to the police, a counter FIR had been lodged against De by Trinamool workers and the charges against him were more serious. "It was alleged by Gautam Das that De assaulted him and another Trinamool worker. Das, who is in hospital, had also claimed that De went around the locality threatening Trinamool workers that he would teach them a lesson once their candidate lost. On the basis of his complaint, De has been accused of causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons. On the other hand, based on De's complaint, we charged Sukumar Saha, Nikhil, Babli Singh and Buro Das with voluntarily causing hurt. Since the charges against De are graver, he has been arrested. We are continuing with investigations and others may be arrested as well," a senior police officer said.
In his complaint, De had claimed that the Trinamool workers barged into his house on Thursday evening and threatened and slapped him. His son, who is partially disabled, tried to save De. But the intruders allegedly assaulted him as well.
In another incident on Thursday, Ahmed Ali, who switched sides to CPM from Trinamool just before the elections, was shot at. Ali was at Amdanga in North 24-Parganas when the assailants pumped two bullets into him. He has been admitted to RG Kar Hospital in a critical condition. Four persons have been arrested in this connection, all of whom are Trinamool workers, the police confirmed. Ali was allegedly a target since he had led an exodus from the Trinamool ahead of the polls.

In East Midnapore's Potashpur, CPI candidate Makhan Lal Pradhan was beaten up on Friday, allegedly by Trinamool-backed miscreants. While Pradhan escaped with minor injuries, four CPI leaders had to be hospitalised.
"The candidate went to the spot on hearing of an attack on his party's booth agents. Once there, he and around 15 of his colleagues were attacked by Trinamool men. Potashpur police rescued them and we are investigating the matter. No one has been arrested yet," said Ashok Rajoria, East Midnapore SP.
Kids weren't exempt from attacks either. In Baruipur on Friday, a Class-VII student was assaulted during a clash between Trinamool and CPM workers. Trinamool leaders claimed that CPM cadres had assaulted the girl, daughter of a trader who supports Trinamool. CPM leaders, however, blamed the Trinamool men.
