With the curtains coming down on the election campaign in Puducherry on Saturday, political parties left no stone unturned to reach out to the electorates.

Campaign vehicles of different political parties were seen criss-crossing each other on every street in Puducherry canvassing for votes. However, it was the star campaigner Nagma who stole the show on Friday.

General Secretary of All India Mahila Congress and film actress Nagma walked down the Renuka Amma Koil Street meeting the residents. “Vote for the Congress,” she told the residents who stood outside their house to greet the film star.

Ms.Nagma shook hands with the women and endorsed for Congress candidate Lakshminarayan contesting from Raj Bhavan constituency. People were elated to see the ‘Baasha’ film heroine walk down the small lane. “She is the heroine who acted with Rajinikanth,” discussed the youngsters as they clicked her pictures on the mobile phones.

Starting from Renuka Amma Koil Street, she went to Vaithikuppam and Kurusukuppam on the campaign vehicle waving at the crowd and occasionally addressing them to vote for the Congress.

She went to Lawspet through Muthialpet to seek support for Lawspet Congress candidate Sivakozhunthu. Even before she arrived there, tension prevailed between the Congress and BJP party workers who congregated at the Netaji Subash Chandra Bose statue. The Congress candidate arrived at Uzhavarsandai to welcome Ms. Nagma. Meanwhile, a BJP vehicle started campaigning close to the venue.

Heated exchange

There was heated exchange between them when Congress party workers asked the BJP to stop the announcement in order to allow their candidate’s speech to be heard. Immediately, the police reached the spot and defused the situation. By then, Congress leader Nagma had arrived at the spot and waved to the crowd.

People gathered around the campaign vehicle to get a glimpse of her. Throughout her campaign, there were enthusiasts lined up on either side of thoroughfare clicking pictures on their hand-held phones.
