Ahmedabad: Police on Friday launched a probe into the case of burglary in Vastral area where thieves had targeted a locked house and had stolen valuables and a car, together worth around Rs 7 lakh.
Paresh Christian, an official with Gujarat Electricity Board (GEB), and his wife Sunanda Christian, residents of Shrinand Duplex in Vastral, had gone to Hyderabad a few days ago.
On Friday morning, their neighbours found that the main gate of Christian's house had been left open and their car was missing.
The neighbours called up Christian's cousin who rushed to the house and found that it had been broken into with cupboards left open. Soon after that, the couple were informed about the house break-in.
Ramol police inspector Paresh Solanki said that though the exact amount of stolen valuables could not be ascertained, it was roughly estimated at around Rs seven lakh. "The prima facie probe indicates that valuables of around two lakh and a car worth Rs 4 lakh to Rs 4.50 lakh had been stolen. However, an FIR will be lodged on Saturday once the couple return from Hyderabad," Solanki said.
