An Intermediate student hanged himself to death in his house at Hussainialam early on Friday, the police said.
K. Ashwin Kumar (17), who was pursuing MEC course from a private institute, did not score good marks in the Intermediate first year examinations. “The family members told us that the teenager slipped into depression and might have ended his life over it,” the Hussainialam police said.
Betting racket busted
The Commissioner’s Task Force (west) team on Friday busted a cricket betting racket being operated by four persons from Mangalhath, and seized a television, pen, eight mobile phones and Rs. 13,120 cash from them. Chandrapal Singh (38) and Mahaveer Singh (34), the alleged organisers, were collecting money from different punters with the help of one Nikhil Chary (21) and handing it over to Bhagwan Singh, who is allegedly the main organiser. “They distributed profits on commission basis. The gang accepted bets directly and through mobile phones,” DCP (Task Force) B. Limba Reddy said. On a tip off, a police team caught them at Ganga Bowli area in Mangalhat while they were accepting bets for the IPL – 9 match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Daredevils scheduled on Friday evening. The arrested persons were handed over to Mangalhath police station for further investigation.
