Pratyusha death row: Parents file SLP in SC challenging Bombay HC order

New Delhi, May 14 (UNI) Soma Banerjee, mother of late acclaimed TV actress Pratyusha Banerjee of "Balika Vadhu" fame  filed a special leave petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court challenging the Bombay High Court order which had granted interim anticipatory bail to accused Rahul Raj Singh. Soma, the anguished mother of late Pratyusha, filed the SLP through her advocates Vipin Nair, P B Suresh and Tishampati Sen, challenging the Bombay High Court April 25 order. The 25-year-old TV actress was allegedly found dead in her apartment under mysterious circumstances and the police had started preliminary investigations. Given the urgency in the matter and coupled with the fact that the state is yet to file its SLP, but it is expected that the appeal by Soma would come up for hearing before the vacation bench of the Supreme Court. The parents of the actress claimed that the death of Pratyusha was not a case of suicide, but that she has been murdered by Rahul and his other partners in crime. There were several deep injury marks on her body, Soma claimed in her petition. The Mumbai Sessions Court had rightly rejected the anticipatory bail of Rahul in view of the strong opposition by the prosecution. However, despite the said rejection, the police deliberately did not arrest Rahul for over a week; before he approached the High Court, Soma claimed. The Bombay High Court had erroneously granted anticipatory bail to Rahul despite the prosecution raising as much as 15 grounds of opposition by the Special Public Prosecutor. The order of the Bombay HC was palpably erroneous and militates against the settled legal position. There has been a clear abuse of the due process of law by Rahul, Soma added. Pratyusha was an Indian television actress. She had appeared in numerous television and reality shows. She was born in Jamshedpur of Jharkhand to Shankar and Soma Banerjee. In 2010, she left Jamshedpur to work in Mumbai. On April 1, 2016, Pratyusha was allegedly found hanging in her Mumbai apartment and according to the post-mortem report the cause of death was asphyxia. UNI XC PY SW 2149
