The heart was sent to a patient in Fortis Malar Hospital in Chennai.
TRICHY: A brain dead man at a hospital in Trichy gave a new lease of life to six patients on Friday.
Shanmugasundaram, a self-employed man, met with a road accident in Pudukkottai on May 10. He was admitted to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital in Trichy where he was declared brain dead Wednesday night.
Shanmugasundaram’s relatives agreed to donate his organs, and he was moved to Cethar Hospitals where the doctors harvested his organs.

The heart was sent to a patient in Fortis Malar Hospital in Chennai. The Trichy city police made a green corridor from Thillai Nagar to Trichy International Airport to transport the organ. The heart was later airlifted on an Air India Express flight.
The liver, two kidneys and eyes were transplanted in patients at Cethar Hospitals, Frontline Hospitals and AG Eye Care Hospitals in Trichy.
