TRICHY: Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president EVKS Elangovan on Friday said voters accept money because they know it was “swindled from them.”
Addressing a press meet here, Elangovan said, “People accept money because they know it has been swindled from them. But they know whom to vote this time, and they would certainly not vote for AIADMK.”
Elangovan made this remark while replying to a question on reports that money had already reached voters ahead of the May 16 assembly election.

He said, “Local election officials should take interest in checking cash flow. Otherwise, there is no meaning in deploying paramilitary or even the Army in the state.”
He blamed the AIADMK government for evading basic infrastructure projects which adversely affected industrial growth of the state. He said the government had stalled Rs 11,000-crore road infrastructure projects across the state.
As many as 35 of the 45 projects announced by chief minister J Jayalalithaa in the assembly under Rule 110 were yet to be fulfilled, he said.
He said the government’s claim that there was no power cut in the state was a lie. “Had the state government ensured proper cooperation with the Centre and operated the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant to its fullest capacity, we could have avoided the power crisis,” he said.
