14 DAY TRIAL // NVIDIA gaming tablets are some of the best choices when it comes to specs and price range. And it’s about time that the company decided to launch a new model in the series, considering that the initial one was released nearly two years ago, in 2014. The series welcomed a refreshed device with a lower price point at the end of 2015, the Shield K1.
The FCC’s testing report doesn’t mention any spec details on the new NVIDIA device, except that it will have 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz 802.11ac Wi-Fi connectivity. It is set to measure 8.6x4.8x0.3 inches (218x122x8 mm), slightly smaller than the old SHIELD Tablet, which indicates that the screen may remain at 8 inches.
The report shows a diagram that hints at the fact that the new Shield tablet might have the same design as its predecessor. The model number is P2290W and it is mentioned throughout the document as a Shield Tablet.
The new NVIDIA tablet is set to support Bluethooth Low Energy and it is to be expected to come with Full HD (1920 X 1280) display, possibly even a QHD resolution panel. Another detail in the report reveals that the NVIDIA tablet will come with micro USB port and it is set to weight 12.3 oz (349 grams), slightly lighter than the Shield K1.
It could come with Android Marshmallow 6.0.1
The latest model in the series was released last year and had an NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor, with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. Additional storage of up to 128GB could be added. Therefore, the new model could have an NVIDIA’s Tegra X1 SoC and additional RAM. Battery capacity reached 5,200mAh.
The new Shield tablet could come with Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 out of the box, considering that the Shield K1 already got an OS update a while ago.
The Shield tablet series has faced some difficulties over the years. The first model was released in 2014, and a year later it was recalled due to potential fire hazard. It went back on sale late last year and now it seems that NVIDIA has decided to revamp the model and launch a new tablet in the series.
