RAIPUR, India: The Chattisgarh government has honoured Sr Annie Jesus FMM, the Directress of Jeevan Jharna Vikas Sanstha (JJVS) in Kansabel, with two special awards — Narishakti and Anti-human Trafficking Awards.

Sr. Annie is the only “religious” person among seven outstanding women from across the state, conferred the awards last week at a well-packed Indoor Stadium in Raipur.

“We need to take all possible steps to save girls and women from being trafficked, and empower them through Education,” said Dr. Raman Singh, the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, during the occasion.

Sr. Annie and her committed team at JJVS have been spearheading a powerful movement in Chattisgarh to curb the menace of human trafficking. Through awareness programs, workshops and training, the team provides close accompaniment to the trafficked women and their families in filing FIR, in addition to rescuing them from other cities, where they are kept captives. Moreover, the team also investigates placement details of the trafficked and assists the enforcement authorities to put the perpetrators behind the bars.

For the past five years the team has reached out to 71 panchayats, 180 villages, 63 schools, 5 Blocks and organized state level training programmes and workshops. More than 100 girls have been rescued and rehabilitated from the Adivasi society, alone.

Later, in a jointly organized programme by Women and Child welfare Department and Social Welfare Board, Mr. Abhishek Singh, Member of Parliament, honoured Sr. Annie for her dynamic and selfless service to the marginalized people through various initiatives to empower tribal women through Self Help Groups, enhance livelihood options through agriculture and allied activities and ensure quality education applying Right to Education Act.--ucanews.com
