It is coming back to the games this year, but the International Golf Federation (IGF) wants to make golf the reference point when the success of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games is recounted long after the last player has left the scene.

The IGF believes golf’s readmission into the Olympic Games is one of the most powerful changes the game has seen in over a century, hence the determination visitors to Rio throng the sport’s venues.

To ensure that every participating country and player gear up for a monumental event, the IGF engaged members, including players and officials from around the world in conference calls on April 5 and 6 to map out strategies for adequate coverage for the sport before, during and after the games through the television, digital/social media, online and traditional prints, clubs and associations.

One of the participants, Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF) President, Mohammed Nazifi, confirmed the IGF moves, saying Nigeria is in the forefront of the push to make golf one of the best events at the Rio 2016 Olympics.

The Olympic will hold from August 5 to 21, 2016, with golf, which will feature a field of 60 men and 60 women, scheduled to hold at the Olympic Golf Course, Reserva de Marapedi, Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Jenerio, Brazil.

Qualification for the golf event is by ranking, with the world’s top 15 players (limit of four players for a given Country) automatically qualified for the event.

The IGF recently disclosed that a maximum of two eligible players from each country that does not have two or more players in the top 15
Olympic Golf Rankings was launched on July 14, 2014 and will conclude on July 11, 2016.
