Surat: At least eight Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) workers led by Kanu Sukhadia were detained by police in Navsari town before they could reach the venue of chief minister Anandiben Patel's programme at Navsari Agriculture University (NAU) in Navsari on Thursday. They were released later. PAAS activists had decided to show black flags to the chief minister at the programme and raise demand of reservation for Patidars in jobs and education.
However, two local Congress councillors Kritika Vaidya and Tanuben were seen at the Krishi Mahotsav.
A lot of eyebrows were raised over the presence of Congress women councillors from ward no 11 of Navsari town at the programme.
City BJP president Ramesh Hirani said, "Invitations are sent to all the councillors and other VIPs for government functions. They may have attended the event because they were invited and there is nothing more to it."
