Mysuru police interrogate convicts in Hindalga jail over Devendra’s murder

Mysuru: Rowdy sheeter ‘Avva' Madesha, his brother C Manju and six of their associates, sentenced to life imprisonment in Hunsur double-murder case, have been quizzed individually by a team of city police officers investigating the murder of rowdy-sheeter Devendra.
Devendra, 36, was hacked to death by a gang near his house in Paduvarahalli (Vinayakanagar) on May 5.

As Devendra was an arch rival of Madesha, a corporator, police are not ruling out the latter's involvement in the murder. They are probing the case in this angle too. A senior officer had questioned all the eight convicts, including Madesha, housed at Hindalga jail in Belagavi.
Hindalga jail officials confirmed that an officer in the rank of inspector and sub-inspector from Mysuru have interrogated the convicts at the jail soon after Devendra was murdered. "They have sought cooperation from us in the investigation," they added.
Hindalga jail is known for housing convicts and undertrials facing charges of heinous offences, including terror activities. Even convicts serving death sentences have been lodged here.

A police officer said that the department will give a suitable reply to those spreading rumours that police are trying to shield Madesha in the case. "We are trying our best to nail the culprits. We are investigating the case from all angles so that we can argue the case strongly," the officer added.
According to Section 303 of IPC, whoever sentenced to life imprisonment commits a murder, he or she shall be punished with death, a legal expert said.
Two arrested
Police on Thursday arrested two more persons with regard to the murder.
Karthik, 21, of Palahalli in Mandya, and Padmanabha, 40, of Paduvarahalli, were arrested following an information from the trio who were arrested on Wednesday. Meanwhile, police have got the custody of another accused Sunil Kumar, 29, till May 18.
So far, six persons have been arrested: Pavan Kumar, one of the prime accused, and his associates Sunil Kumar, Shivaraj, Rakesh, Karthik and Padmanabha. Search is on for another accomplice of the gang.
