Major renovation at Pune’s Sassoon hospital: Air ambulance facility planned

On the completion of five years since he took charge of the 1,296-bed hospital – the largest government hospital in the state – Chandanwale told mediapersons that seven lakh patients on outdoor basis and 64,000 patients on indoor basis are being treated annually.

“We are renovating various sections of the hospital — haemodialysis unit with expansion, round-the-clock diagnostic wing especially biochemistry laboratory upgradation with polymerase chain reaction machine, automated electrophoresis for hemoglobinopathies, chemilumniscence for hormonal assays in infertility and vitamins, 10 general wards, residents’ mess and hospital corridors, entrance gates, compound wall, and internal roads,” Chandanwale added.

Meanwhile, Anna Hazare visited the hospital for a routine check up on Wednesday, Chandanwale said.

He also visited the upcoming 11-storey building of Sassoon hospital which will be a special nursing home to attract patients from the middle socio-economic class.

Meanwhile, May 12 is celebrated around the world as International Nurses Day to mark the contribution of nurses.

At the centre, a technology platform called the ‘live register’ has been initiated to include, capture and update the latest information of currently practicing nurses, a statement issued Thursday said.
