Intensify anti-liquor raids, Nitish tells officials

Taking strong exception to alleged smuggling of liquor from bordering districts of Uttar Pradesh (UP), chief minister (CM) Nitish Kumar has directed the police and excise officials of Saran district to conduct regular raids and ensure that those arrested for liquor-related offences do not get bail from court.

Chhapra: Taking strong exception to alleged smuggling of liquor from bordering districts of Uttar Pradesh (UP), chief minister (CM) Nitish Kumar has directed the police and excise officials of Saran district to conduct regular raids and ensure that those arrested for liquor-related offences do not get bail from court.
Nitish, who held a meeting with district officials here on Wednesday to review the progress in implementation of his seven commitments, became furious when he was informed that smuggling of liquor from UP is rampant in the district.

The CM also reviewed availability of drinking water in villages.
Reminding the officials that Bihar Public Grievance Redressal Act would come into force in the state from June 6, he told them to be ready with relevant registers, proformas and internet connectivity in order to avoid any inconvenience to the people. The CM asked the officials to further strengthen the Right to Public Service Act by discharging their duties efficiently. He directed the principal secretary of disaster management department to provide necessary relief to fire victims without any delay.
Referring to his seven commitments, the CM directed the officials to start district registration and advisory centre, general nursing and midwifery (GNM) and auxiliary nursing and midwifery (ANM) schools, Centre for Language Communication, para medical institutes and procure land for opening other educational institutions.
