Could we be in for an extension of the Twilight series?

If you're a diehard Twilight fan, you'll be pleased to know that the cast of the film are set to reprise their roles. Despite the fact that author, Stephanie Meyer once said that she wouldn't be revisiting that tale it seems that Lionsgate are set to collaborate with Facebook, the Women in Film organisation, and Tonal, a crowdsourcing platform, to put the characters from Twilight back on our screens. What's more, Meyer is involved too.

However, rather than producing another feature length blockbuster film, there's going to be a series of five short movies which will be posted to Facebook. Fans will then select the prize winner, who'll not only get a cash prize, but who'll no doubt be catapulted into stardom. Featuring characters from the Twilight universe, the movie makers will be guided by a panel of esteemed mentors, including Meyer herself, Kristen Stewart who played Bella, Kate Winslet, Twilight Director Catherine Hardwick, producer Cathy Schulman and more.

And while you may be hoping that the original cast will once again be resurrected, none of them are set to star in these short movies; the roles will be given to new, upcoming talent. However, there's likely to be no shortage of people willing to get involved, as the Twilight franchise has spawned all kinds of spin-offs, from TV shows and books, to comics and even online casino slots. Vampire themed games, such as the Immortal Romance slot on alljackpotscasino.com for example, show the extent to which the Twilight theme is engrained in popular culture. In addition, fan art has exploded in the community since the first film was released in 2008. Hand drawn cartoons, digital portraits and fan-made sequel trailers are now rife across the internet.

The whole idea of revisiting the Twilight saga is to encourage female talent in the entertainment industry. As the stories themselves were credited for getting women to read, and making reading popular again, they're a good a place to start as any. But what direction are these short movies likely to take?

We're likely to see lesser known characters taking a more central role. So it could be that Jacob and Renesmee's love story becomes a central theme. We could also see Kristen Stewart play a cameo role, especially as she's been named on the panel of mentors. She's also been known to say that she's open to the idea of exploring more of her character Bella. And seeing as Robert Pattison hasn't ruled out the possibility of him reprising his role - who knows where this could end?

There's also the possibility of a remake of the original motion picture. Given that fans love the original it's not such a far-fetched idea, especially as it's the fans who will be doing the judging in the competition. We might also get to see something of a role reversal going on. Last year Meyer announced that she's penned a new version of the original story, where the vampire is a girl who falls for a human teenage boy. This will turn on its head, some of the criticism levelled at the Twilight series, which saw Bella as a victim of her vampire boyfriend.

But whatever happens, we're sure that the loyal legions of fans will flock to Facebook hoping to catch more glimpses into the Twilight world, and once again satisfy their thirst for insight into the relationships between vampires and humans.
