Bajwa seeks PM's intervention for return of youth stuck in Malaysia
CHANDIGARH: Congress Rajya Sabha MP Partap Singh Bajwa on Thursday write to the Prime minister seeking his intervention in release of eight youth of Gurdaspur stuck in Malaysia. Bajwa has represented Gurdaspur in the Lok Sabha in the past.
"This is to bring to your urgent attention the extremely unfortunate plight of eight youth who had gone to Malaysia and were held captive by their employer.
Their passports were seized and they were made to work in inhuman conditions. The stranded youth were treated as slave labour by their employers. The youth are victims of human trafficking racket who were promised the moon by travel agents and were also duped of huge sums of money," he said.
Giving details of the stranded youth, Bajwa has demanded that the PM should intervene and take up the matter with his Malaysian counterpart, besides directing the Indian Embassy to render assistance for safe return of the youth.
On April 16, the youths had written a letter to the Indian High Commissioner in Kuala Lumpur. Simultaneously, Paramjit Singh got in touch with Gurdaspur-based senior CPI leader Gurmeet Singh Bakhatpura.
