2 civic volunteers die in accident

Kolkata: Two civic police volunteers were killed when a private bus hit their motorcycle on VIP Road at Kaikhali on Wednesday evening.
Police said the accident took place around 7.45pm when Saikat Das and Shyandip Sengupta from Bidhannagar commissionerate were driving towards the airport.
Shyan was riding the bike while Saikat was riding pillion. The driver of a private bus hurtling at breakneck speed on the same lane lost control of the vehicle and rammed the bike from behind near Hazhouse.
The duo was thrown off the bike as the bus sped away.Passersby took them to a Baguiati nursing home where Saikat was dead on arrival. Shyan was wheeled into surgery but died around 10pm. The bus is yet to be identified and police are going through CCTV footage to trace it.
Traffic was disrupted on VIP Road for over half an hour following the accident. Locals and daily commuters had gathered on the road to protest reckless driving by bus drivers. A police team from Baguiati was sent to break up the protest.
