Two bodies were fished out from the Sabarmati by the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES) on Tuesday. According to Riverfront (W) police officials, the first victim was identified as Amit Panchal, 23, a resident of Bhagyoday Society, Naroda. Panchal had jumped from the walkway on the riverfront near Nehru Bridge before 1.40 pm. In the other case, the body of Bharat Sindhav, 19, a resident of Indira Vasahat, Chanakyapuri, was fished out near Ellisbridge at 4.30 pm.
Police said they are yet to ascertain the reason for the suicides.
Man caught for robbery in Rajasthan: A 31-year-old man has been arrested by the city crime branch for his involvement in Rs 1.72 lakh robbery in Chittodgadh, Rajasthan. A team of crime branch officials, working on information, caught Mohammad Rafiq Shaikh, a resident of Faridabad Society, Ramol Road, near Saiyadwadi in Vatva on Tuesday. Police said that Shaikh and his son Javed Pathan had assaulted two persons in a transport office in Chittodgadh two months ago and had taken Rs 1.72 lakh from the office. Officials said that the accused has been caught seven times earlier in Ahmedabad and once in Vadodara for various offences.
