A 31-year-old man faces multiple charges of sexual conduct with a 14-year-old girl after his arrest Tuesday following a barricade situation at his central Phoenix home, authorities said.

Evert Alexander Velasquez was being held without bail in a Maricopa County jail, according to Phoenix police and court documents.

Velasquez was held on suspicion of three counts of sexual conduct with a minor and one count of attempted sexual conduct with a minor, according to court documents. Police said he also had been the subject of a Phoenix Municipal Court injunction against harassment of the 14-year-old girl.

The girl had reported multiple incidents of sexual intercourse to authorities.

Between 8 and 9 a.m. Tuesday, police went to Velasquez's apartment to serve a warrant for his arrest, according to Sgt. Vince Lewis, a Phoenix police spokesman. While there, officers learned that a 14-year-old girl was in the apartment.

The man and the girl refused to leave for several hours.

Tactical officers safely entered his apartment in the 4300 block of North 20th Street and he was arrested at 2:05 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

The teenage girl was placed in the care of the Arizona Department of Child Safety.

Velazquez told police that he loved the 14-year-old  and planned to marry her after she turned 18. He denied any sexual activity with the victim and requested an attorney.

Velasquez's next court appearance was scheduled for May 18.
