A preview of how 'Monday Night Football' will sound with Sean McDonough behind the mic

After nearly 10 years as the voice of Monday Night Football, Mike Tirico is off to NBC Sports. In his place? Veteran play-by-play man Sean McDonough, who becomes the fifth person to fill that role in the show’s 46-year history. McDonough has done it all — World Series baseball, college football, golf, tennis and NFL games on the radio.

If you’re wondering what MNF will sound like with McDonough at the helm, we’ve put together a highlight reel of sorts to give you a clue:

1992: The Sid Bream slide that won the Atlanta Braves a NLCS Game 7  over the Pittsburgh Pirates

McDonough isn’t afraid of getting excited during huge moments. That will make Tirico fans happy since he was more than happy to lose it on the air at amazing plays like the 2012 Packers-Seahawks Hail Mary:

2009: He somehow didn’t lose his voice calling the six-overtime Syracuse-UConn game

You can get a taste of his play-by-play style (even though it’s a basketball, not football). Plus, he has some good chemistry with Bill Raftery, which should bode well for Jon Gruden.

2010: McDonough plays along with the Syracuse Kiss Cam

Sometimes, Monday Night Football blowouts can result in some random, weird fun on the air. There’s some proof McDonough has a sense of humor.

2015: The Michigan botched punt that became a last-second Michigan State touchdown

A call with some voice cracking, and like any good play-by-play man, he sat back and let the post-touchdown action on the field unfold.

2016: The Kris Jenkins shot that won Villanova a national championship

McDonough had the call with Dick Vitale on the international feed of the NCAA Tournament championship game. Again: A great call that conveys the thrill of the moment.

Conclusion: Monday Night Football is in good hands … er, vocal chords.
