Perumbavoor case: Aadhaar data can't be shared, UIDAI
KOCHI: The move by special investigation team (SIT) probing the rape and murder of Dalit woman from Perumbavoor in Ernakulam hit a roadblock with United Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) made it clear that biometric data of Aadhaar card holders cannot be shared with any investigating agency as per a Supreme Court order.
Officials with the SIT said that the UIDAI authorities turned down its request citing a Supreme Court order in 2014 which had directed the central government agency not to share information of Aadhar card holders with any investigating agency.

The SIT had approached UIDAI's regional office in Bengaluru to check possibilities of fingerprint analysis in cracking the case. The police approached UIDA after two sets of fingerprints collected from the scene of crime did not match that of suspects in thier custody.
The SIT had obtained a favourable order from the judicial first class magistrate court, Kuruppampady, to approach UIDAI for fingerprint analysis. Meanwhile, the SIT had also started collecting fingerprints of men aged between 18 and 70 from two wards in Rayamangalam panchayat in Perumbavoor.
