Sears India donates eye laser unit to Sassoon hospital
PUNE: Sears India, a global in-house center of US retail giant Sears Holdings Corporation, with offices in Pune and Bengaluru, donated high end eye laser unit to the ophthalmology department of Sassoon General hospital recently.
The company made the donation as a part of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR).
The department of ophthalmology at Sassoon General hospital provides tertiary care to the poor and needy patients of western Maharashtra under National Programme for Control of Blindness, launched by the Government of India in 1976 with the goal of reducing the prevalence of blindness from 1.4% to 0.3% by 2020.

On the occasion, Alok Kumar, managing director of Sears India said, “The Yag laser unit is expected to restore useful vision free of cost of approximately 4,000 out of 6,000 patients operated for cataract at Sassoon hospital annually.”
Spine surgeon Ajay Chandanwale, dean of Sassoon General hospital and eye surgeon Sanjeevani Ambekar, head of ophthalmology department, expressed gratitude towards Sears India for sponsoring this noble cause.
