Three men were arrested on Tuesday for beating up a police constable in Mahim while in an inebriated condition. They were identified as Akshay Ansurkar, Aniket Ansurkar and Santikesh Rathod.
According to the police, around 2.30am on Tuesday, four drunk men approached a taxi near a petrol pump in Shivaji Park. They told taxi driver Shivkumar Soni (54) to drop them in Mahim. Soni, however, refused, after which they started abusing him. Constable Ganpat Chavan (53), who was on duty, spotted the commotion and intervened.
"The four started abusing Chavan and brutally thrashed him with a wooden stick, badly wounding his face. The accused then fled from the spot. After getting information about the incident, Shivaji Park police immediately reached the spot and rushed Chavan to Nagpada police hospital , where he was later discharged," said a police officer.
Three of the four accused were later arrested from Prabhadevi. The police has also registered a case against all four.
