Janta market murder: Woman gangster held

Surat: Shehnaaz Sukri, who had gained notoreity in Janta Market area, was arrested after she surrendered in court on Monday.
Shehnaaz, wife of history-sheeter Amin, was on the run since March 5 after allegedly murdering a mobile phone businessman in Janta Market. Police investigation had revealed that Shehnaaz was leading the gang that had stabbed Faiyaz Mohammad Habib Kalam.She was present at the spot of murder before Kalam came and she alerted her husband and other gang members over phone, sources said.
Kalam was first stabbed by her son Waqas and later she attacked him with a sword nearly seven times. Sukri gang was involved in extortion in Janta Market and Kalam had raised his voice against them. Amin's elder son Faiyu is in jail for the murder of Samir Pathan, Kalam's bodyguard. Pathan was stabbed to death in Janta Market in January by Faiyu.
"I cannot reveal details about investigation at this moment since it can hamper the probe. Police have strong evidence against all the accused in the case," said A M Captain, police inspector, Athwalines police station.
Police took her New Civil Hospital (NCH) after she complained of uneasiness and would be produced in the court on Wednesday.
Sources said that Shehnaaz had kept changing her locations to avoid arrest and had also taken the help of her family member Gazala to hide the sword after murder. Gazala was arrested earlier along with Shehnaz's husband Amin and Waqas.
Shehnaz, who had a criminal background, was known for her clout in Janta Market. She is the sister of Arif Mindi, a history-sheeter involved in gambling and criminal activities in Kadar Sha ni Naal area.
Police sources said that women from Shehnaaz's family had also started using her name to threaten people. After Kalam's murder, his 56-year-old father Habib was allegedly threatened with dire consequences by two women from Sukri family.
