MADURAI: DMK will complete the 58-canal irrigation scheme in the district if it comes to power in the state, assured party Rajya Sabha MP and women's wing secretary Kanimozhi.
While campaigning for party candidate in Usilampatti on Tuesday, Kanimozhi said her party chief M Karunanidhi's first signature after assuming power for the sixth time in the state will be on the order imposing prohibition.

She said Karunanidhi always kept his promises. He waived Rs 7,000 crore of farm loans when he came to power last time. "But chief minister and AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa never does what she says,'' the DMK leader said.
She said public distribution system (PDS) will be regularized and self-help groups, which had deteriorated under the present AIADMK rule, will be revived once DMK comes to power in the state.
The 58-channel irrigation scheme was commissioned in 1999 to facilitate irrigation in villages in the district. Of the total 230 pillars in the canal, only 60 have been constructed. As per the scheme, water from Vaigai dam would be diverted through the canal to dry areas of the district for irrigation.
