Speeding lorry fatally knocks down two cyclists, child

Two cyclists and a child died on the spot when a speeding lorry knocked them down at Veerappanchathiram on Tuesday night.

The deceased were identified as Kumar (35) of Mecheri and Sivaraj (37) of Bhavani, and Oviya (6) of Perumal Kovil Street. Oviya’s brother Sirish (7) and mother Maithili (33) sustained grievous injuries.

Alagappan (35) of R.N. Pudur, driver of the lorry laden with condiments, was suspected to have driven under intoxication. Locals beat him up before the police arrested him.

Maithili and Sirish were taken to a private hospital for treatment while Alagappan was admitted to the Government Headquarters Hospital. The Veerappanchathiram police have registered a case.
