Scope high for a new govt. college at Sathy

May 11, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - ERODE:

Start of construction work for the newly-sanctioned government arts and science college at Malaiadipudur village close to Athani road has raised hopes of the institution getting functional from the 2016-17 academic year.

The announcement was made last September for start of new arts and science colleges in Erode, Theni and Kanyakumari districts.

After inspecting a few places, the location was finalised at a 15-acre site in Malaiadipudur categorised as Natham Poromboke. The institution will be within a few kilometres distance from the town limits, serving as the only government arts and science college for the entire district.

There are indications that a few courses will be offered from the coming academic year. Initially teachers are likely to be posted in the new institution on transfer basis, sources said.

Since the construction work will take more time for completion, the college will be started temporarily on rented premises. The management of Raghavendra group of institutions has offered its buildings for the temporary campus to the Directorate of Collegiate Education, it is learnt.

The college is expected to fulfil the higher educational requirement of students passing out of the numerous higher secondary schools in Sathyamangalam, Hasanur, Bhavani Sagar, Thalavadi, and Punjai Puliampatti.
