Nottinghamshire v Middlesex

Continued showers meant there was no play on Day 3 at Lord's in London. As it stands, Sam Robson's unbeaten effort of 114 has helped Middlesex respond strongly to Nottinghamshire's first-innings tally of 354. Middlesex are 203 for 3, trailing by 151 runs.

Brief Scores: Nottinghamshire 354 (Samit Patel 86, Michael Lumb 78; Roland-Jones 5-61) lead Middlesex 203/3 (Sam Robson 114*, J Simpson 66*; Brett Hutton 2-47) by 151 runs.

Lancashire v Hampshire

On a rain-hit third day at Old Trafford in Manchester, James Vince saw off some tough bowling spells from James Anderson to ensure his side wouldn't face a batting collapse for the second time in their fixture against Lancashire. The visitors began the day at 22 for 1, with a huge deficit of 325 to overcome to avoid an innings defeat. In the little play that was possible, Vince stood tall to take his side to 76 for 2 at stumps, batting on 39 off 147 deliveries.

Brief Scores: Hampshire 109 & 76/2 (James Vince 39*; J Anderson 1-6) trail Lancashire 456 (Luke Procter 137, Alviro Petersen 81, H Hameed 62; Tio Best 5-90) by 325 runs.

Yorkshire v Surrey

Joe Root completed a fine double century but only 13.2 overs were on Day 3 of a tantalising contest between Yorkshire and Surrey as rain wreaked havoc at Headlingley in Leeds. Root eventually became Ravi Rampaul's fourth victim of the innings, falling for 213 but a stroke-filled unbeaten 60 from Adil Rashid extended Yorkshire's lead to 227 runs as they reached 557 for 6 at stumps.

Brief Scores: Surrey 330 (Steven Davies 117, K Sangakkara 73; D Willey 3-55, Jack Brooks 3-73) trail Yorkshire 557/6 (Joe Root 213, Jonny Bairstow 198; Ravi Rampaul 4-153) by 227 runs.

Warwickshire v Somerset

There was no play on Day 3 at Edgbaston in Birmingham due to incessant showers through the day. As it stands, Warwickshire, who are batting on 4 for no wicket, need 318 runs on the final day to earn a victory.

Brief Scores: Somerset 295 & 178 (Peter Trego 51; Boyd Rankin 3-33, Chris Woakes 3-45) lead Warwickshire 152 & 4/0 by 317 runs.

Division 2

Kent v Gloucestershire

Sam Northeast fell 11 short of a well-deserved double century but Kent moved into a poisiton of control on the third day of their Division Two encounter against Gloucestershire at Canterbury. On a day with frequent rain interruptions, Northeast shared fruitful stands with Alex Blake (45) and Darren Stevens (54) to help Kent go past Gloucestershire's total of 337. A 54-run ninth wicket stand between Calum Haggett and Matt Hunn helped Kent pick up an additional point, taking their match tally to seven, compared to Gloucestershire's five.

Brief Scores: Gloucestershire 337 (Hamish Marshall 112, Jack Taylor 52; Calum Haggett 3-66, Darren Stevens 3-68) trail Kent 478/8 (S Northeast 189, Tom Latham 90; David Payne 2-76) by 141 runs

Derbyshire v Sussex

Persistent rainfall throughout the third day's play ensured that there was no play possible. Earlier on Day 2, Irish batsman Ed Joyce struck a stunning double hundred to put Sussex firmly in command against Derbyshire. The 37-year-old veteran scored 250 at a strike rate of 76 and hit 34 fours and two sixes. Luke Wells helped himself to a ton and was involved in a mammoth 310-run partnership out of which he made 116.

The visitors have 468 runs on the board in the first innings and lead Derby by 277 runs with five more wickets in hand.

Brief scores: Derbyshire 191 (Shiv Thakor 36*, Hamish Rutherford 32, Lewis Hatchett 5-58, Steve Magoffin 2-35) trail Sussex 468/5 (Ed Joyce 250, Luke Wells 116, Shiv Thakor 3-59, Wes Durston 2-106) by 277 runs.

Glamorgan vs Worcestershire

No play was possible on the third day at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff due to rain. The washout has now given Glamorgan some hope to draw this game despite being on the backfoot.

Brett D'Oliveira's double hundred took Worcestershire to 456 on the second day before they declared. In reply, Joe Leach and Ed Barnard reduced the home side to 42 for 4 at stumps. Even though trail by a massive 414 runs, Glamorgan will back themselves to hold on to a draw on the final day.

Brief scores: Worcestershire 456/6 (Brett D'Oliveira 202*, Joe Clarke 133, Moeen Ali 55, Graham Wagg 3-103) lead Glamorgan 42/4 (Chris Cooke 27*, Joe Leach 2-15) by 414 runs.

Leicestershire vs Northamptonshire

Leicestershire were left frustrated on the third day as not even a single ball was bowled due to rain at Grace Road in Leicester. With rain arriving at 9am, Umpires Paul Baldwin and Peter Hartley kept close tabs on the situation and decided to call off the day at one point.

The home side are in a strong position having established a 313-run lead against Northamptonshire with four more wickets in hand. If rain relents, we will have an exciting final day's play.

Brief scores: Leicestershire 322 all out (Neil Dexter 98, Angus Robson 56, Olly Stone 4-56, Rory Kleinveldt 2-41) and 132/6 (Niall O'Brien 48*, Ben Sanderson 4-36) lead Northamptonshire 151 all out (Adam Rossington 35, Wayne White 4-24, Neil Dexter 3-15) by 313 runs.
