It's not every day one gets to have a chat with some of the country's biggest designers. But last week, the members of Kolkata's Ladies Study Group got a chance to spend an afternoon with two icons, star designer Manish Malhotra, and jewellery mogul Raj Mahtani.
Held at Kolkata's ITC Sonar Hotel, the discussion was attended by close to 450 women, and was followed by a high tea. The highlight of the afternoon, however, were the graceful models dressed in Manish Malhotra's garments and adorned in jewels by Raj Mahtani, giving guests a close look at their best creations.
The experience wasn't just special for the ladies in the audience, but the stars of the show as well. “Kolkata is a city I like very much as it holds its culture and craft and it is indeed a city of joy,” says Malhotra. “It's been 10 years of my label Manish Malhotra, and I have only done two fashion shows in Kokata, and now a showing this year.”
How well did Mahtani's pieces fare with the ladies? “The jewellery was exquisite,” says Malhotra, “and the collection I showcased was handcrafted evening wear and Indian textiles and handloom. The line was for spring/summer and it made an interesting story to showcase. The talk post the presentation was interesting as I got a chance to speak about my craft, label and journey. It was indeed a very interesting evening of fashion and conversation.”
