Vadodara: The Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) has now decided to go ahead with its cricket stadium project at the Kotambi land. The BCA managing committee that met on Monday evening passed a resolution to perform ground breaking ceremony and puja at the Kotambi land in June. The decision came as a surprise as the association had in January passed a resolution to lease Reliance Stadium and renovate it.

"We have decided to perform puja at Kotambi land in June. We will take BCA members to the place and show them the land," said BCA (in-charge) secretary, Snehal Parikh. When asked about the fate of the MOU with Reliance Industries for leasing its stadium, Parikh said the association will pursue it as well. "We will work on both the projects and use both the stadiums. Cricket in the city is expanding and we need more facilities," he added. BCA had done MOU with the state government in 2013 for building stadium at Kotambi but last year it decided to lease Reliance Stadium.
"We will put the non-agricultural process for the Kotambi on fast track," said BCA treasurer, Amul Jikar. The managing committee also decided to organize the annual general meeting (AGM) for 2013-14 on July 17. "Once the AGM is conducted, we will get funds from the BCCI. I am hopeful of conducting another AGM by the end of this year," Jikar told TOI.
BCA has decided to give 100 gram silver coin to its members to celebrate 75 years of the BCA and centenary year celebrations of the legendary cricketer, Captain Vijay Hazare. The plan is to distribute the coins in June during an event when either Sachin Tendulkar or Rahul Dravid will be invited.
The issue of conflict of interest too dominated the managing committee meeting. "We have asked the legal committee to prepare a report regarding posts held by the BCA office-bearers and other committee members and if any of them is getting any remuneration from the association. The committee will submit us a report soon following which we will organize another managing committee meeting on May 22," said Parikh.
