Vadodara: Three persons were killed and six others injured in a road accident on National Highway 8 on Monday morning. A speeding car rammed into a sport utility vehicle (SUV), another car and a motorbike at around 7am. The victims were towing the SUV that had overturned in the morning hours when the accident took place. A 23-year-old engineer, who was driving the speeding car, has been booked for the accident.

The deceased were identified as Dhiru Bharwad, Vijay Bharwad and Laxman Bharwad. While Vijay and Laxman died on the spot, Dhiru succumbed to his injuries later. The deceased and injured persons belonged to Dholka taluka of Ahmedabad district.
Police said the deceased's car overturned at around 3am near a petrol pump near Kapurai Chowkdi. They informed their relatives about it and the latter reached the spot to tow away the vehicle. They had parked their car next to the overturned SUV.
At around 8am when members of Bharwad family were towing the SUV, a car driven by Ahmedabad-resident Mahavir Suthar ran over them. Police said Suthar lost control over the steering wheel while trying to prevent collision with a motorbike that was approaching from the wrong side.
"Suthar was speeding and he told us that the motorbike emerged suddenly. He told us he could not see the people who were near the SUV by the roadside. Although he had fled from the spot, we detained him later," said police sub inspector S G Vasava of Panigate police station.
Vasava said after the SUV had met with the accident, one of its tyres got punctured. Vijay was replacing the tyre when he was run over by Suthar's car.
